| Centres have frequently asked why candidates who take Listening and Reading pretests are given a raw score rather than a band score. This is because the exact number of raw marks required to secure a particular band score varies from test to test (to allow for small variations in item difficulties). Therefore, an individual band score conversion table would have to be produced for each pretest version, and this would entail unacceptable delays in issuing results to candidates. | ||||||
| However, it is possible to report the typical scores of candidates at various bands on the live Listening and Reading tests in percentage terms. These may then be used to interpret Listening and Reading pretest raw scores as band scores. The percentages scored at particular bands in live tests are as follows: |
