Elena Velikaya at the 49 th Annual IATEFL Conference

From April 10-14, 2015, Manchester (UK) hosted the 49 th  annual IATEFL conference. About 3,000 delegates attended the conference, and over 400 presentations were given.  English-language coordinator at the HSE’s International College of Economics and Finance (ICEF) Elena Velikaya gave a talk entitled  Teaching English at an Economic University: Looking for New Perspectives .

Her talk presented an analysis of the English-language teaching provision for student economists at ICEF, their requirements, and new avenues for developing student skills in professional English. The presentation sparked significant interest and discussion among teachers from countries across the world.

IATEFL –  the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language was founded in the UK in 1967. Its main mission is to develop connections between organizations and professionals in English language teaching.

ICEF has implemented a unique language programme, offering students language support on educational programmes taught in English from the first year and throughout their studies, and studies at the LSE. Teachers are mostly English-language native speakers as well as being highly experienced and qualified specialists in their field.
