Young Professionals Roundtable discussion with Assistant Secretary, Victoria Nuland

On Tuesday, May 19, 2016 the United States Embassy in Moscow hosted a Young Professionals Roundtable discussion with Assistant Secretary, Victoria Nuland, and Ambassador in the Russian Federation, John F. Tefft. The purpose of the meeting was to gather a distinguished group of young Russian leaders representing a broad array of disciplines to discuss current challenges and opportunities in the U.S.-Russia bilateral relationship.

All in all there were eight participants from different spheres including education, non-profit organizations, legal companies, media etc. Aida Rodomanchenko, Head of Teaching and Learning Office at the HSE School of Foreign Languages and a member of the coordination board of NATE (National Association of Teachers of English) represented the field of education.

We touched upon a number of issues that are faced by teachers and students today and agreed on the need to revive exchange programs for high school and college students from Russia and USA, as well as Russian teachers of English. It’s extremely important both for Russian and American students and teachers to have an opportunity to feel the country from within and gain a first-hand knowledge about its culture. I’m extremely grateful to the ELO Office and Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy in Moscow for the opportunity to participate in the event.

Young Russian leaders had a chance to discuss a variety of subjects both with the Assistant Secretary Nuland, and Ambassador Tefft, in an open question and answer style format.  The topics covered successes and challenges in the fields of education, business, science, civil society, and culture and suggestions on constructive U.S. engagement in the future.
