"Music to my Ears" - that was the topic of the evening in the SpeechMaster club, where for the thirty-fourth time the like-minded people gathered to practice the skills of the English language, discuss unusual themes in an interesting format and to take part in discussions and public speeches.
Terentyeva Irina Yurievna, the permanent head of the club, prepared a plan of the event. At first participants got acquainted with each other, shared their musical tastes and memories of pleasant moments connected with certain performers and songs in general. The students were given the opportunity to discuss the philosophical issues raised by the songs of famous singers. For example, students were discussing the idea captured in a line from one of Taylor Swift's songs "When you are young, they assume you know nothing", or Elton John's words "Sorry seems to be the hardest word" and many others. Irina Yurievna gave feedback to each of the participants individually, so that they could check their mistakes during a dialogue or a monologue in English.
Vera Smirnova, a freshman student of Fundamental and Computer Linguistics, gave a prepared speech. She shared her thoughts on the song of Nickelback "What are you waiting for", which helps her to move forward and makes her continue to progress. Her colleagues were able to ask questions and also shared their ideas about which songs motivate and inspire them.
The meeting concluded with an "Art session", where students were given the opportunity to play their favourite song and share the music repertoire of their favourite performers.
Konstantin Satdarov, a freshman in the Fundamental and Computer Linguistics programme, shared his opinion on the meeting and the club as a whole:
"This is not the first time I've been to the "SpeechMaster" club, and, as always, the event was very cozy and nice, because it's not only about practicing public speaking skills in English, but also about the opportunity to share something personal with other people, to express opinions about something, to reflect on some idea. It's always nice to come here and just enjoy a great time.
The next meeting of the club will be held on May 27. It will be the thirty-fifth anniversary meeting with the theme "A Trip Down Memory Lane". Participants will be able to recall the best moments of the year as well as share the conclusions reached during this time. All information can be found in the VK group.
We look forward to seeing you there!
