Event Report: Freshman Day 2022

On the 1st of September, there was The Freshman Welcoming Ceremony at the Bachelor's programme "Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication" at the School of Foreign Languages.

Waiting for the start of the event, first-year students took part in activities and games prepared by their curators. Students formed groups to take a quiz about languages of the world, participate in discussions in English, and to get acquainted with each other through play. 

The event began with the greeting and congratulations from Ekaterina Kolesnikova, the Head of the School of Foreign Languages; Nadezhda Vradiy, Deputy Head of the School; Azhimov Feliks, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, and Svetlana Bogolepova, the Programme Academic Supervisor. 

First-year students could check their knowledge about the academic programme during the quiz "How well do you know the "Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication" programme?". Participants could win a present – wristband with the ‘School of Foreign Languages' logo. 

Babasyan Elizaveta, the Chairman of the Student Council, informed the students about the Council's activity, its members, and on what occasions a student could ask them for help and join the team.

Butyanova Darya, the Curator's Mentor, and the curators, Guseva Svetlana and Kotelnikova Polina, shared with students their experience of the first years at HSE and gave practical advice on how to adapt to the university environment more quickly. 

Elena Simonova, the Programme Manager, introduced the members of the Study Office and informed first-year students about the timetable and the particularities of the second language selection.

In the terminal part of the event, the winners and nominees were given presents in frames of traditional categories. Bright cups with the logo of the School of Foreign Languages were awarded to Bozheskova Angelina ("The Highest Score" category - 307!); Shaimagambetova Diana and Astafieva Polina as to the first to make a contract; along with Park Yu Mi, Em Alina, and Tontovi Adila Alfia Maula, who came from Sakhalin region and Indonesia for studying! Everyone present also wished Mary Basentsyan a Happy Belated Birthday and sang a song for her.
