At the Embassy residence, students met and took pictures with the new US ambassador to Russia, John Sullivan, who arrived in Moscow in mid-January. Moreover, they practiced their English skills, discussing youth participation in research with American astronaut, Anna Lee Fisher.
Some of the students who took part in the event have shared their impressions:
Serafima Gavrilova, 1 year Undergraduate student, Bachelor’s Programme 'Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication':
‘The meeting with the US ambassador and the first mother to go into space, made an indelible impression on every single oneof us! First of all, I would like to mention theirAmerican English: the speech was easy to understand and had a reasonable pace, meaning it was a great pleasure to listen to them. In addition, when looking atphotographs from outer space, it was unbelievable that you were face to face with a person who has traveled to space and seenthe world from an entirely different perspective. Anna Lee Fisher was very friendly, she happily answered each question and joked with us. I am extremely grateful to my university that we were given theopportunity to attend such a high levelevent.’
Rita Parushkina, 1 year Undergraduate student, Bachelor’s Programme 'Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication':
‘The event was extremely interesting, but, of course, most of all I enjoyed the lecture by Anna Fisher. She is an incredible woman who made us believe that nothing is impossible. Her speech and presentation was not only inspiring, but also eye-opening, withnumerous facts about space and photographs taken on board the spacecraft, which are difficult to find even on the Internet. Moreover, Dr. Fisher was very welcoming, answered all questions and hadphotos taken with everyone - to sum up, a real ‘wonder woman’.’
