On April 29, a seminar “Are you open to opposing viewpoints?” was held as a part of Colloquium Practice. Red Bushetara and Alina Budnikova, tutors at the School of Foreign Languages, shared their unusual experience of integrating conflict management theory and teaching writing skillswhen teaching how to write a “discuss both viewpoints and give your opinion” type of essay.

Ksenia Chermoshentseva, Student Affairs Manager at the School of Foreign Languages, has extensive experience with intercultural communication going back to her early childhood. This experience helps her in her work—students of the School of Foreign Languages, after all, come from all over the world. Elizaveta Babasyan, a first-year student of the FLaIC programme, interviewed her and asked about the uniqueness of HSE students, as well as about ways of communicating with young people.

To learn more about the French Club, we spoke with Louis Ernou, Natalia Zhukova, head of the HSE French Club and tutor at the School of Foreign Languages, and Valeria Vazhenina, student head of the Club and first-year student of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication.

Text and Discourse, a New Track in the FLaIC programme

A new track called Text and Discourse is being added to the bachelor’s programme in Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication. We talked to Anna Sebryuk, Associate Professor at School of Foreign languages, and discussed discourse, features of the new track, and opportunities for students.

Digitalization of Higher Education in the Context of the Pandemic

Within this project, a group of students is engaged in comparing different approaches and strategies for the transition from offline to online education that universities around the world are using. The project team are also developing useful materials for teachers and students. We talked to Arina Barasy, a 2nd-year student of the Master's programme in Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication, who is the head of the project group. She told us about the objectives and achievements of the project.
