HSE Placement Test for Russian as a Foreign Language
The Russian language placement test is mandatory for all students requiring Russian language preparation.
Your results will place you in a course that matches your current proficiency level, ensuring a personalised learning experience and enabling accurate progress tracking. For this reason, it is essential that you take the test independently and demonstrate your true ability. Please note that your score on this placement test does not affect your position in the academic ranking.
How is testing conducted?
The placement test is administered online via the SmartLMS platform during the first week of Module 1.
To access the platform, you will need to log in using your HSE corporate email address and its associated password.
What does the test consist of?
The test consists of 4 sections: Vocabulary, Grammar (Morphology), Listening, and Reading. You will have a specific time limit to complete each section. Once the time for a section elapses, it will close automatically, and any unsaved answers will be submitted.
Total time: 70 minutes. Maximum score: 100 points.
The test includes a variety of question formats, such as: multiple-choice questions, fill-in-the-blanks tasks, and matching tasks.
The test content focuses on language used in everyday social situations, socio-cultural contexts, and educational environments.
For a detailed breakdown of the tasks in each section and comprehensive test-taking procedures, please refer to the official test-taker instructions.
Your exam will be graded on the HSE scale, in accordance with the Concept for the Development of Students' Foreign Language Communicative Competence. After completing the test, you can view your score in the ‘Grades’ section of the testing platform.
