International Academic Mobility
Every year, HSE University partner institutions around the world welcome SOFL students through the International Academic Mobility Programme.
Participation in this programme offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in other countries' educational systems, improve foreign language proficiency, develop intercultural communication skills in an international academic environment, and explore the world.
The programme allows students to study at one of HSE partner institutions abroad for one semester (3–6 months). Credits earned at the host university are transferred to HSE student's diploma. Tuition is free for HSE students. However, other related expenses such as airfare, insurance, accommodation, and meals are covered by the students themselves.
To participate in the international academic mobility programme, students are required to go through a competitive selection process. The competition is held twice a year (spring and autumn) in three rounds (waves).
The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students of the School of Foreign Languages, regardless of whether they are state-funded or fee-paying. Undergraduate applicants are required to complete at least 4 modules of their educational programme by the time of application, while graduate students are expected to complete at least 2 modules.
Applicants may apply in any of the three rounds or in all three rounds (if an application is rejected in the first round, it is permitted to apply again in the second or third round).
Each application wave consists of 3 stages:
-
Stage 1
Submission of an online application with a package of documents via LMS Single Window system.
For the competition, you can choose a maximum of 2 universities (from the lists for Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3, respectively), indicating them in the order of priority.
The required documents include: Application Form, Individual Curriculum with a list of courses to be taken at the host university during the academic mobility period, Cover Letter, Certificate confirming foreign language proficiency, Сost Estimate, Letter of Recommendation (optional).
More information about the list of required documents is available here. Please note: a separate package of documents must be submitted for each of the selected university.
-
Stage 2
The decision on your submitted application is sent to your email address provided in the form filed via LMS Single Window System.
If none of your applications in the first wave are approved, you can try again in the next waves (2 and/or 3). The deadlines for the new competition wave are available here.
If one of your submitted applications is approved, you must inform us of your decision regarding your participation in the programme within 3 days.
If both applications are approved, your first priority is considered. In this case, you must also inform us of your decision within 3 days.
-
Stage 3
To receive instructions from a host university on registration in their internal systems and confirmation of registration.
To ensure you don't miss out anything, use checklists and read recommendations and tips for visa processing.
No later than 4 weeks before the beginning of your studies at the host university, you are required to formalise your participation in the international academic mobility programme by submitting the documents.
